Eleanor Davies, St John Ambulance ACT Volunteer
“There’s something special about being able to help the community in the capacity I do as a volunteer with St John. It goes beyond administering first aid, I feel that people being aware of our presence is reassuring not just because we’re there to help in a first aid capacity, but because we’re there on our own time doing what we love and it really shows. Every duty is rewarding and you never quite know what you’re going to come across. St John is one massive family and everyone is supportive of each other. I’m grateful for the friends I’ve made and I feel I’ve truly found my tribe and being the nerdy eccentric person that I am, I’m always happy when I find people who accept me for me.
St John has given me more than friendship, it’s also given me purpose and direction and shown me what I’m truly capable of. I’ve always had an interest in medicine but thought that that was the extent of it, but my time with St John and the amazing and inspirational people I’ve met though the organisation have helped me realise that my interest in medicine and passion for helping people can become a career and I’m planning on eventually studying paramedicine.”
Eleanor has volunteered with St John Ambulance ACT in Event Health Services since June 2019 and has managed 305.5hrs of service, even through the COVID-19 restrictions for events last year. We are very grateful for her dedication to the team and ongoing positive attitude.
